It’s time to cut taxes for Washingtonians.
That’s why I have joined Sen. Deb Krishnadasan to introduce a bill rolling back Washington’s state sales tax from 6.5% to 6.0% — the first significant tax cut in more than 40 years.
Our state and local sales tax rate ranks among the highest in the nation, placing a disproportionate burden on working families and those living paycheck to paycheck. Lowering this rate would return more than $2.5 billion back into people’s pockets over the next two years — an average of more than $300 per person, or $1,200 for a family of four.
This is targeted, immediate relief for you and your family. It reflects a simple principle: taxes should be fair, and state government should lighten the load on working families, not add to it. We propose cutting taxes now, not later, while ensuring essential services remain strong and well-managed.
In short: this important bill is about fairness, responsibility and lifting up working people. Please urge your state legislators to support it.
