Letter to the editor: Immigration contrast

Posted

Editor,

Since 1886 the Statue of Liberty has stood in New York Harbor as a symbol to the world of freedom and a better life.

In the words of Emma Lazarus:

“ …Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-toast to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

“You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself.” — (Leviticus 19:34).

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” — (Matthew 25:35).

Donald Trump on immigrants:

“Migrant criminals.”
“Illegal monsters.”
“Killers.”
“Gang members.”
“Poisoning our country.”
“Taking your jobs.”
“The largest invasion in the history of our Country.”
“On Day 1, I will launch the largest Deportation program in American history.”
