Letter to the editor: An open letter to the Port of Ridgefield

Posted

Dear Port of Ridgefield commissioners,

I realize that you are in a difficult position. Do you authorize a plan that seemed right a few years back, or change direction? The Ridgefield Waterfront project is one such issue. It is full of potential regret.

I’m asking you to consider a pause — take a breath, find out what the citizens want. You won’t learn what people want by holding community events, a table at the farmer’s market, or surveys. The only way to hear the people’s voice is to let them share in the decision with a vote.

Trust the people. Let them share in the burden of leadership.

Isn’t that why you became elected officials, to listen to what the people want and represent their concerns?

Don’t let prior decisions guide your actions. Ridgefield isn’t the same as it was when the Waterfront Project was initiated. The desire for growth is different. Unchecked development can have unexpected consequences. I believe developing the Waterfront Project is one such potential regret. This is why you need our help.

Let the citizens of Ridgefield vote how we use our port district. You won’t solve this issue any other way. Whether you are pro or con for the development, only a vote will settle the issue.

Let the citizens debate the issue and trust their decision. Regret is a terrible position to be in.

Listening to your constituents shows “true transparency and trust.”

Sincerely,

Walt Gordon

Ridgefield
