La Center students highlight school pride with mural

Students at La Center Middle School are working with the La Center Arts Council to create a new mural that celebrates school pride. The mural features a hawk, the school’s mascot, soaring over a valley, and is expected to be completed by late May or early June. The project was initiated by seventh grader Amelia Benson, who proposed the idea during an ASB meeting to boost school spirit.

“I really wanted to do something that could make the school a better place and just seeing the painting actually being started and getting going has made me super excited,” Benson said.

La Center Arts Council Director Krissy DuBois said the experience of working with the students has been meaningful.

“This is why we started bridging the arts in the community,” DuBois said. “For these students to see that they created this — it’s part of my heart.”

The mural will be displayed on the back wall of the building’s second-floor stairwell once completed.
