La Center seeks input on downtown expansion plans

The City of La Center will host two open houses in November and December to gather community input on plans to expand its downtown area.

The meetings will cover the city’s Downtown 2.0 project, which aims to add jobs, increase tax revenue and preserve the community’s small-town character. Plans also include an urban forested recreation area with trails, picnic spaces and pedestrian connections between the Lewis River and downtown, according to a City of La Center news release.

The city also plans to expand nearby infrastructure with sewer, water and stormwater improvements scheduled for completion between April and June 2027, followed by road grading and installation of curb gutters, sidewalks and streetlights between July and November 2027. Completion timelines are dependent on weather and funding.

The open houses are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the La Center City Council chambers, located at 210 E. Fourth St., La Center. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the plans and provide input on what they would like to see in the area.
