The La Center School District was recently awarded a $90,000 grant that will pay for teacher devices and technology systems in its classroom.

The grant came from the Cowlitz Tribal Foundation Clark County Fund, which is an extension of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, stated a news release.

“Our district priority is educating students to become life-long learners who can thrive in a rapidly changing, more technologically advanced and diverse society,” said school board member Wendy Chord in the release. “This generous grant that was made possible by the Cowlitz Tribe will allow us to work toward that mission. We appreciate the effort of Michelle O’Neil, our director of teaching and learning, who seeks out and includes community partners to support us in this work.”

The Clark County Fund donates millions of dollars on an annual basis to nonprofits located in or serving Clark County. It is one of the largest giving funds in the area and is run by a five-person board.

“The Cowlitz Indian Tribe has a strong dedication to education and our local community,” said Luke Bridges, the chairman of the fund. “We are very happy to support our neighbors at the La Center School District by providing funds for technology that will support the excellent work done by the teachers and staff who work so hard to serve the students of La Center.”

La Center Superintendent Peter Rosenkranz said the district is appreciative of the generosity of the Cowlitz Tribal Foundation and said the district is “excited to implement technology in our classroom that will allow us to better serve students.”
