A juvenile suspect accused of making a bomb threat at Kalama High School on Wednesday had a preliminary hearing Thursday morning in Cowlitz County Juvenile Court.

According to the minutes of the preliminary hearing, a court-appointed public defender was assigned to represent the 13-year-old, and Cowlitz County Court Commissioner Tom Ladouceur set a zero-dollar bond for the suspect’s father, with unknown conditions.

According to arresting documents, at about 12:20 p.m., Wednesday, a Kelso Police Department officer responded to Kalama Middle/High School regarding a student who made a statement to a teacher that he “placed a bomb in the senior building.”

The building was evacuated because of the threat, but no explosive device was discovered.

Court minutes also say the youth was arrested on suspicion of threats to bomb and false reporting in the first degree. His next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28.

The Daily News does not disclose the identities of juvenile suspects unless they are being tried as adults.

The spokesperson for the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill, said the office assisted the Kalama police in detaining a juvenile suspect who made a bomb threat at Kalama High School on Wednesday.
