In loving memory of Viola Ikerd: 1943-2022

Viola Jane (Johnson) Ikerd, 79, of Woodland, Washington, passed away on Dec. 21, 2022. Viola was born on June 28, 1943, to Theodore and Elsie (Stratton) Johnson in Vancouver, Washington. Viola graduated from LaCenter High School in 1961. 

On June 4, 1964, she married Sherman Ikerd, who was enlisted in the Army. Viola, Sherman and their three boys moved and lived in Washington, Alaska and California. After Sherman retired from service, they made their home in Woodland, Washington. 

Viola was a certified nurse’s aide, working at the Woodland Convalescent Center for 11 years. She then provided in-home care for patients. No matter where Viola called home, she loved to garden. She was also an avid reader, puzzler, rock hound, music collector and animal lover. 

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Ikerd, and her sister, Joanne Barker. She is survived by her three sons, David (Margaret) Ikerd, of Kentucky; Steven (Alice) Ikerd, of Woodland, and Mark (Jennifer) Ikerd, of Woodland. She had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored along with her niece and nephews. 

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at Highland Lutheran Church, at 38809 NE 41st Ave., La Center, Washington.
