In loving memory of Steven Woolsey: 1971-2022

Posted

Steven James Woolsey, age 51, of Yacolt, Washington, died on the night of Feb. 4, 2022 in a tragic single vehicle car accident, which occurred between Battle Ground and Yacolt. Steve spent his last moments on this earth next to one of his favorite rivers where he fished often.

Steve was born Jan. 7, 1971 in Edmonds, Washington. He graduated from Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Washington, in 1989. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, assisting with the launching of planes from the USS America aircraft carrier during the Iraq War, serving for two years. Over the years, Steve became an accomplished cabinetmaker and sawyer, and was involved in manufacturing custom cabinets and special orders for many homes in the Vancouver and Portland area. He was a connoisseur of all things wood. For the last 11 or so years he worked for J&R Wood Products and prior to that he worked for Coughlin Custom Cabinets, which are both in the Battle Ground area.

Steve loved the outdoors, fishing, firewood cutting, country music and hanging out with his friends. He was known for his quiet strength, kind heart and generous spirit, laughter, food and good jokes. In his off time, he could often be found at his favorite fishing hole or circled around a fire with a beer and his friends. He liked adventuring in the mountains and woods of the national forest and would often just be up there for no particular reason but to enjoy nature.

Steve is survived by his two children, Samantha Woolsey from the Seattle, Washington area, and Dustin Woolsey from the Aloha, Oregon area. He is also survived by his partner in life Ronda Knapp from Yacolt, Washington; his parents Jim and Grace Woolsey from Vancouver; his sister Tamara Pierce from Vancouver; his brother Dwayne Woolsey from Battle Ground, and several nieces and nephews, as well as a multitude of friends and neighbors from their community in Yacolt, Washington. He will be greatly missed by all.

Layne’s Funeral Home of Battle Ground will assist with arrangements for Steve’s burial. Services will be held at the Amboy Grange at 10 a.m. on March 4, 2022 at 40107 NE 221stt Ave., Amboy, Washington, 98601. Some refreshments and a light lunch will be provided around noon and then for those interested, a graveside lowering will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the Yacolt Cemetery. Come as you are. After all, Steve wasn’t a “fancy dresser,” and we shouldn’t have to be either to gather and honor and celebrate his life. Please, if you knew Steve, we would love to have you attend to help us remember him and be together with others who also knew and loved him.

The Woolsey family is forever grateful for all the support of friends and family and the help in carrying the burdens and the loss of our beloved Steve.
