In loving memory of Richard Hubbell: 1961-2023

Posted

Richard Hubbell, of East Windsor, Connecticut, a loving brother and father of six children, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Fresh River Healthcare at the age of 62 after a long fight with Huntington’s disease. Richard was born on April 5, 1961, in New Haven, Connecticut to Robert and Carol (French) Hubbell.

Richard was raised on a farm in Woodbridge, Connecticut with his brothers Bill and John, and sister Karen. He began playing hockey at an early age and into high school. After leaving high school in 1978, he was a commercial truck driver for more than 40 years, making countless trips from coast to coast hauling anything from heavy equipment to gas.

When he was not driving, Richard was more at home outdoors than anywhere else. He would spend time waking his children at the crack of dawn in the summer to complete yard work. If he wasn’t on a riding lawn mower you could find him in his favorite chair watching shows from MASH to World War II documentaries. He was known for his sarcastic demeanor and his infectious laugh even at the most childish pranks.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his mother, Caroll and his son, Kenneth.

He is survived by his other five children, Jennifer (Jon), Kyle (Teresa), Bobbi (Brayden), Jake (Tia) and Vivian (Daniel); his brothers, Bill and John; his sister, Karen; his nieces and nephews; and 18 grandchildren. There will be a private burial for the family in Ariel, Washington, where he will be laid to rest near his son Kenneth. The date is to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Huntington’s Disease Society of America at www.hdsa.org. The Riverview Funeral Home, at 390 River Road, Shelton, Connecticut has been entrusted with his arrangements. Friends may leave condolences at www.riverviewfh.com.
