In loving memory of Norman Larson: 1937-2022

Posted

On Sept. 18, 2022, Norman Ross Larson passed away at home peacefully with his family. Norman was born May 9, 1937, in Portland, Oregon, to Andrew and Kathleen Larson. He grew up in Battle Ground, Washington with his two brothers David Larson and Jerry Larson.

Norman graduated from Battle Ground High School in the Class of 1955. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier from 1955 to 1959. After his service, he went to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, during which time he worked aboard the "Chester Harding Dredge" based out of Portland from 1975 to 1977. He also worked in Saudi Arabia on the Jubail Naval Base before he returned home to work on the second powerhouse at the Bonneville Lock and Dam on the Columbia River as well as the Spirit Lake project after the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980 before he retired. He held a two-year college degree as well as a master gardening credential, which was useful on his 20 acre farm where he lived for 45 years.

Norm enjoyed singing and dancing all of his life. You typically found him and his wife, Illana Larson, out two to three times a week doing just that with their favorite local karaoke DJs.

Norm is survived by his wife of 50 years Illana Larson; son Randal Larson; daughter Lyn Larson-McCann; grandchildren Cody Larson, Ciara McCann, Danielle Larson and Sean McCann; and two great-grandchildren Cody Larson Jr. and Freya Larson. He will be a greatly missed father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.

A graveside gathering for friends and family will be held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2022, at Park Hill Cemetery, located at 5915 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Section "U," lot No. 90, grave No. 4.
