In loving memory of Norma Delores Linman Avery: 1927-2021

Posted

Norma Delores Linman Avery, 94, passed away on Oct. 25, 2021 after several years of COPD and a brief bout of pneumonia. She had a final chance to be surrounded by her children and hear lots of “remember when” stories and laughter. Norma was born in Lake George, Minnesota in 1927 to Frank and Bertina Linman and was preceded by her parents, sisters Louella and Darlene, and one brother fiMaynard, all in the Pacific Northwest.

Norma met and later married Russell W. Avery in Kelso, Washington in May 1944. She is survived by their children Marilyn (Rod Millard), Rick (Debbie), Chuck, Dave (Pam), Jim (Sheila) and Gordy (Sandy), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the Southwest Washington area.

Norma was preceded in death by their oldest son, Kenny, in 1960 and by Russ in 1998 after 54 years of marriage. She was truly a final blessing to her husband as she cared tirelessly for him for four years after his severe stroke.

Through the years Norma resided in Longview, Woodland, Vancouver, Spokane, Goldendale and rural Ridgefield, Washington as the family followed Russ’ logging and Burlington Northern Railroad career. Norma, nicknamed “Bubbles,” worked as a seam inspector on ships at the Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver during WWII, and later was an egg sorter at Creagan Egg Farm in Ridgefield. In some years, she worked at the DelMonte Cannery in Vancouver.

She told fun stories of how much she enjoyed dancing at the old La Center dance hall on Pacific Highway as a teenager. Her kids remember her always baking and canning, refereeing kids, and keeping her household running smoothly. Her interests and hobbies included knitting, crocheting, jewelry crafts, bingo, word search games and reading. She especially enjoyed traveling on road trips and shopping when she had a chance.

Norma will be interred at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington next to Russ and Kenny at a service on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. The family wants especially to acknowledge the loving care she received from the team at Whipple Creek Senior Home in Salmon Creek and the staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.
