In loving memory of Mark Gregory Strand: Nov. 12, 1967 - July 11, 2024

On July 11, 2024, we lost a son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, uncle and husband.

Mark Strand was 56 years old when he passed away at Long Beach, Washington. He is survived by many friends and family who loved him including his parents, Mark and Pamela; sister, Deborah Schlinkmeier; brother, Steve; and wife, Prudence.

Mark was a sportsman. He played the typical sports as a child and continued with wrestling and baseball in high school. A 1986 graduate of Evergreen High School, Mark tried to balance school attendance (and later, work attendance) with other important things in life: water skiing, snowboarding, snow skiing, fishing and hunting. In the 1990s, he could also be found speeding around the bases at Prairie Field.

He primarily worked in lumber mills and as a factory millwright. Aside from stints in Montana and Oregon, he lived and worked in Vancouver, Camas, Port Angeles, Pullman, Packwood and a host of other towns. These jobs allowed him (and his parents) the opportunity to see much of Washington.

Hunting, fishing, clamming and crabbing were also significant parts of his upbringing. Mark enjoyed fishing but admitted that he didn’t have the patience to be very successful. His true passion was deer, elk and bird hunting. He was seldom without a duck call and canine companion.

Mark took advantage of the Pacific Northwest and enjoyed sharing all it has to offer. He loved showing off the mountains, forests, ocean and all the great areas in between. Mark will be missed by many and can be remembered each time we take part in the activities that he loved.
