In loving memory of Margaret Clark: 1925-2021

Posted

Margaret “Mickey” Marylln Clark (Morris) passed away quietly in her sleep in the comfort of her daughter’s home. Mickey was the matriarch of our family, a loving wife, and a wonderful mother, who was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mickey was born in Muscatine, Iowa on Aug. 24, 1925, to Icy and Alvin Morris. It is there Mickey and Lee became childhood friends and later sweethearts. Mickey accepted Lee’s marriage proposal, which he sent via telegram while serving overseas during World War II. They were married in December of 1944 while home on leave. Both of their families moved to Hebo, Oregon in 1945 where she worked at her grandparent’s Hebo Cafe from 1946 to 1950. The cafe was sold and the family moved to Portland. Mickey and Lee lived in southeast Portland and raised their family in the David Douglas School District. They were both longtime members of Savage Memorial Church and quite active as deacons and volunteers at Snowcap. In 2005, they moved to Battle Ground, Washington to be closer to family.

Mickey and Lee were married for 62 years, which spoke to their deep devotion to family and commitment to one another. Mickey spent her adult life as a “working” housewife, caring for the needs of her children and grandchildren. Her time was spent babysitting, preparing outstanding meals, and providing for the educational needs of her grandchildren. In what little spare time she had, she found joy in starting plants of all kinds. She truly had a “green thumb.” A good 500 to 1,000 piece puzzle was a challenge she thoroughly enjoyed. Mickey also loved watching the wild birds that visited the many feeders she had positioned around her house.

She was preceded by her husband Leland J. Clark, her older brother, Robert Morris and younger sister, Helen Pattison (Morris). Mickey is survived by her children: Dianne Miller (Mark) of Battle Ground, WA, Steven Clark of Vancouver, WA, and Debra Olcott (Richard) of La Center, WA; grandchildren: Kerri Beyerle, Kevin and Kelsey Conrad, Katie Berggren, Jesse Clark, Mary Stokes, Ryan and James Olcott and Lindsey Shaffer; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1740 SE 139th Ave., Portland 97233.
