In loving memory of Kay Spencer Beasley: 1929-2021
Kay Spencer Beasley, mom, grandma, granny passed away on Nov. 18, 2021, peacefully in her home of 70 years. She was born on Oct. 4, 1929 in Hermiston, Oregon. She was adopted to the parents of Kyle and Crystal Spencer who lived in the Charter Oak area near Battle Ground, Washington. Kay graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1948 and continued to be part of the BGHS community with the graduation of her sons and grandsons. She had the Bengal Tiger painted on the downstairs wall of her home.
She married Kenton Beasley at the Covington House on Oct. 26, 1951. Kenton took a job logging in the Redwoods of California. They lived in Eureka where she started her United States Postal Service career and where her first son Ron was born in 1954. The family moved back to Charter Oak in 1955 and had two more boys, Brian and Kent. After 32 years of marriage, sadly Kenton passed away in 1983. Kay continued on. She worked out of the Battle Ground Post Office, finishing her career and retiring on Dec. 24, 1991. A special thank you to all of the post office family who knew her and worked with her.
Kay enjoyed gardening, canning, picking berries, mowing the yard, doing her favorite crossword puzzles and solving them all. Additionally, she loved the beach and would frequent it often at her second home, the beach cabin.
Kay accomplished all of this while loving her family. She is survived by her three sons Ron, Brian and Kent; four grandchildren Chad (Lilly), Kalen (Kelly), Shaylene and Kyle; and five great-grandchildren Amelia, Austin, Eleanora, Estella and Everett. She was the rock to her family. We are blessed and lucky to have had such a wonderful mother as our matriarch. Many thanks to all neighbors and friends for your heartfelt condolence. Kay had a great saying, “Life can only be understood backwards, but it has to be lived forwards.” A funeral will be held at Layne’s Funeral Home in Battle Ground on Dec. 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a breast cancer society or a crippled children’s nonprofit of your choice.
