In loving memory of Jim Carner: 1932-2023

Posted

We are heartbroken. Jim (Bus) Carner passed away on Feb. 6, 2023, at home in Battle Ground surrounded by family. He will be remembered forever. We will miss him.

He was born on July 15, 1932 in Battle Ground, Washington, to Carl and Frances Carner. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. Jim loved to entertain family and friends at his farm. All were welcomed and greeted with a smile. He had a way of making people feel at ease.

After graduating from Battle Ground High School in 1950, he joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War. On his return home in 1953, he frequented the local diner, Kampus Korner, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Jean Meyer. They were married March 25, 1955, and would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this March. Jim and Sandra settled in the Cherry Grove area in 1959 and continued to live there for the next 63 years.

Jim worked for 37 years at Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Vancouver and retired in 1994. He enjoyed family, farming, gardening, deer hunting, water skiing, RV camping and traveling. As an avid gardener, few could compete with his corn standard of “knee high by the Fourth of July.”

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Dirk (Nancy) Carner, Dawn (Larry) Shinn, Gwen Carner, Gail (Miles) Andrist and Diana (Rusty) Christensen; grandchildren, Sarah (Weston) Kane, Emily (Ian) Schrom, Stephanie (Johnny) Mosely, Kevin (Megan) Shinn, Christine (Kyle) Marshall, Brett (Stacey) Andrist, Melissa (Jeremy) Gribble, Ashley Christensen and Nicole Christensen; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Kasey, John, Ellie, Everly and Memphis; and siblings, Kay (Ed) Haisch and Claire Carner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to hospice or the charity of your choice.
