Dorothy L. Bloomquist (Dottie), loving family matriarch, passed away on Jan. 23, 2024, at the age of 95.

Dottie is survived by her three children, Marlene (Roger) Byerly, Gordy (Kay) Bloomquist and Bill (Julie) Bloomquist; her grandchildren, Tanya Kesmodel, Mendy Benson, Becky Lawson, Chad Benson, Kara Bullock, Jeff Bloomquist and Cory Bloomquist; and her 16 great-grandchildren.

Dottie was born in South Dakota on Jan. 6, 1929, to Florence and Herman Kielman. She was the youngest of 13 siblings and moved to Battle Ground, Washington, when she was 5 years old. She graduated from Battle Ground High School and was a successful egg farmer, a real estate agent ($1 Million Club) and briefly managed the Battle Ground Tiger Bowl.

Dottie was an exceptional bowler and traveled around the country competing in women’s bowling tournaments. She also enjoyed water skiing, salmon fishing, clam digging, crossword puzzles, going to yard sales, quilting, baking, canning and picking fresh fruit. She was an avid collector of Dutch pottery, coins, blue vases, perfume bottles and spoons from her travel. Dottie also loved playing card games and led a pinnacle club with her friends that lasted over 40 years. Dottie was generous, witty, strong and social. She thrived when spending time with her family and traveled extensively to be present for her grandchildren’s sporting events, activities and special celebrations.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Babies in Need, https://babiesinneed.org/, where Dottie donated over 2,500 quilts that she made. A Celebration of Life service will take place in July 2024 in Battle Ground, Washington.
