In loving memory of Diane Himes: 1945-2023

Posted

Diane Margaret Himes passed away on April 20, 2023, at the age of 78 after a 4 ½ year battle with ovarian and finally pancreatic cancer.

Diane was born in Butte, Montana, on Jan. 13, 1945. She was the oldest daughter of Chet and Margaret Jones.

She was very proud of her hometown, Butte, and it was there that she met her future husband, Marshall Himes. They were married in Riverton, Wyoming, on Aug. 4, 1967. Their two children, Troy and Gina, were born in 1970 and 1971.

She and Marshall established homes in Riverton, Wyoming, Tucson, Arizona, Missoula, Montana, Salt Lake City, Papua New Guinea, Kelowna, B.C., and finally Battle Ground, Washington.

Diane was a dedicated mother (and grandmother), homemaker, talented seamstress, cook and volunteer at school and church. Cycling was a favorite activity for Diane, and she really enjoyed defeating her husband at both golf and pool.

Although recently the struggles with cancer had become all consuming, she was buoyed by her faith and was able to spend the last bit of her life planning one last root beer float social with her kids and cherished grandchildren at her side laughing and remembering all the good times.

Survivors include her husband, Marshall Himes, of Battle Ground; children, Troy Himes (Shelece), of Billings, Montana, and Gina Himes Boor (Chris), of Bozeman, Montana; sister, Lenette Caruso (Paul), of Helena; and grandchildren, Arlo, Elijah, Grace and Jackson.

Thank you to Dr. Gina Westhoff and the most caring staff of the Legacy Medical Group-Gynecologic Oncology office for the 4 ½ years of care throughout her cancer journey. An additional thanks to the outstanding staff at Legacy Hospital at Salmon Creek for the care they provided Diane in her last two weeks of life.

As per Diane’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. She requested that any memorials be sent to the charities Open House Ministries in Vancouver (www.sheltered.org) and the Salmon Creek Cancer Fund.
