In loving memory of David Sonntag: 1942-2022

David Karl Sonntag peacefully passed away on May 23, 2022, at his home in Kalispell, Montana. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was 79 years old.

David was born in Vancouver, Washington, on Sept. 28, 1942. He grew up in Battle Ground, Washington, where he graduated from high school in 1960. He attended Biola University in La Mirada, California, and furthered his Biblical studies at Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon.

After spending several years in Alaska and traveling through Central America, David settled back in Battle Ground with his wife, Amira, and their four children. He enjoyed serving at Cherry Grove Friends Church in various capacities and served for two terms on the Battle Ground School Board.

David was an avid reader and loved traveling, farming and spending time with family and long time friends, from near and far. He also loved eating exotic fruits, cheese and fresh homemade apple pie.

David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Amira, and their four children, Bonnie Sonntag Karben, Shirlene Wood, Johann Sonntag and Camille Sonntag, along with two sons-in-law, Bobby Wood, Garridan Robinett, daughter-in-law, Teresa Sonntag and 10 grandchildren. He also leaves behind three sisters, Sandra Gerard, Shirley Madewell and Linda Waters.

Dave is greatly missed by his family but they rejoice that he is in the arms of his Savior. A commemoration of his life is being held at 2 p.m. July 9 at Word of Grace Bible Church, 1317 NW 12th Ave., Battle Ground, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cherry Grove Friends Church in Battle Ground are suggested. Friends and family are invited and welcome to attend Dave’s celebration of life.
