Harvest Days will feature 10th annual cruise in Battle Ground

One of the community’s favorite events during Harvest Days will occur on Friday, July 14, when the Harvest Days Cruise travels down Main Street through Old Town Battle Ground.

The event will feature special interest vehicles from the 1980s and older.

No pre-registration is needed. Cars can begin lining up for the cruise at 3 p.m. at the Battle Ground High School parking lot off of North Parkway Avenue. The registration fee is $30 and there will be a soft cut-off time of 8:30 p.m. Only cash will be accepted.

The cruise will begin at 6 p.m. after road closures are put into place and the cruise is expected to end at around 9:30 p.m.

“I just love seeing the classic cars, love, love seeing the support from the community,” Battle Ground City Councilor Shane Bowman said. “I think the community loves seeing the cars and it’s just a great event.”

Bowman said he has helped with the cruise since it started in 2012. At that time, he used to work the burnout pit, which will not take place this year. Each year, he looks forward to seeing the classic muscle cars from the late 60s and early 70s.

This year, the Battle Ground Festivals association along with city officials and law enforcement, will implement strong safety measures to ensure the event is safe and enjoyable for everyone, the Battle Ground Festivals Facebook page stated.

“There will be a strong police presence from various law enforcement agencies. Several volunteers will be stationed at road blocks as well as certified flaggers,” stated the social media post. “You’ll also see several volunteers inside the cruise route on UTVs watching for any issues. The volunteers seen within the cruise route will be in constant contact with (law enforcement) as well as fire and rescue.”

The Facebook post added burnouts will not be tolerated and the cruise could be shut down if they occur.

Spectators along the route are asked to keep the sidewalks clear for ADA accessibility.

Attendees can set up chairs along the route that will be on Main Street and North Parkway Avenue in Old Town.

“A good place that a lot of people don’t even think about is on North Parkway because you’ll get to see all the cars come out,” Bowman said. “Anyone’s welcome. Anybody can walk through the parking lot at the school and check out the cars before the cruise even starts.”

At around 5 p.m., about an hour prior to the cruise start time, Main Street is set to close at Southwest Seventh Avenue and to the east toward Grace Avenue. Traffic on Main Street will be directed onto Southeast First Street. Main Street is expected to reopen to traffic at around 9:45 p.m. following the cruise.
