The Fort Vancouver Heritage Garden Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20 at Fort Vancouver Heritage Garden and Building 410, 1001 East Fifth St.
The Garden Fair highlights the all-volunteer work that sustains the heritage garden at Fort Vancouver and supports its ongoing public interpretation, according to a news release from Fort Vancouver.
Residents can meet the volunteer gardeners, learn about the heritage garden, and explore the story of how apple trees and the fruit industry were introduced to the Pacific Northwest.
Attendees can expect to connect with contemporary naturalists, explore displays from the Fort Vancouver Rose Society, and watch live watercolor demonstrations by Southwest Washington Watercolorists. They can also visit the Jane Weber arboretum to learn about the plants grown there and meet the author and illustrator of the new book “PIP The Old Apple Tree.”
A beer and wine garden will also be held for those 21 and over from noon to 5 p.m.
While there, residents can browse heritage seeds, books, petunia hanging baskets, planter boxes, handmade baskets, and unique artwork in Building 410, as well as viewing Jason Griffiths’ showcase of native trees and fruit cultivars.
The all-day program is an activity of the Friends of Fort Vancouver, the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service.
There will be free admission to the garden, exhibit hall and free parking for the duration of the event.
