Final list set for city council races across Clark County

Posted

Candidate filings for the 2025 local city council elections officially closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9. The final list of candidates is now confirmed and available at clark.wa.gov/elections/candidates.

The August primary election will be held Aug. 5 with the top two candidates in each race moving on to the general election on Nov. 4. There are currently no races with more than two candidates, though, so all candidates listed here will move on to the general election.

This article reflects the updated, final slate of candidates after the filing deadline.

Battle Ground

Mayor Troy McCoy is running unopposed for reelection to City Council Position 1, a regular four-year term. The mayoral role is filled by council appointment following the general election.

In Position 4, appointee Jeanie Kuypers will face off against former mayor and longtime councilmember Philip L. Johnson. Kuypers joined the council in February after Adrian Cortes resigned to join the state Senate. Johnson previously served 12 years on council and retired in 2023.

Position 5 became a three-way race during filing week, but Dave Terry has since withdrawn, leaving John Idsinga, currently serving on the city’s planning commission, and newcomer Aimee Vaile to face off.

In Position 6, incumbent Cherish DesRochers now faces a challenge from Brian Munson, who served on the council from 2016 to 2021. Munson was first appointed in 2016, was reelected in 2017 and lost his seat in 2021 to Troy McCoy.

Mayor Matt Cole (Position 4), Meghan Hamilton (Position 1), Katie Favela (Position 5), and Rian Davis (Position 6) have filed to maintain their current seats.

All except Cole were appointed to fill vacancies.

Louis Rivara is running unopposed for the open Position 1 seat after Melissa Fox did not seek reelection. Incumbent KC Kasberg is running again for Position 2. Sean Boyle also runs unopposed for Position 3.

Keith Bellisle withdrew his candidacy for Position 1, leaving incumbent J.J. Burke and challenger Aaron Brown in a head-to-head race.

Instead, Bellisle will run against Jennifer De Luz for Position 6, currently held by Terry Hall.

Brittny Michaelson filed to challenge incumbent Carol Rounds for Position 2.

Position 3 will see incumbent Melissa Doughty face off against DeeAnna Holland.

In Position 6, Keith Bellisle re-entered the race but shifted to this seat instead. He will face Jennifer De Luz.

Jason Friend, who was appointed in 2024 following Monte Smith’s resignation, runs unopposed for Position 7.

Yacolt

All four candidates who filed are incumbents and currently hold their seats.

Jeff Carothers (Position 1), Kandi Peto (Position 2), Craig Carroll (Position 3), and Brandon Russell (Position 4) will all run unopposed.
