Ed Huffman: 1943-2021

Posted

H. Edward (Ed) Huffman passed away on Thursday June 17, 2021. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Sherry; and his children, Jeff, Jennifer, Jenell, Morgan, and Adam. Ed was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was born March 14, 1943, in Oakland, Calif. His family moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where he graduated high school. The oldest of three kids, Ed moved with parents; brother, Doug, and sister, Jan to Vancouver, Wash., where he began working in the grocery business and later was a salesmen for Blue Bell potato chips.

In Vancouver, he met and married his wife, Sherry Cameron. They had three children before moving to Yacolt, Wash., in 1980.

A pillar of the Yacolt community, Ed purchased Benge’s store, where he renamed it the Yacolt Trading Post. He and his son Jeff owned and operated the store for over 30 years. Ed was also a member of the Yacolt Evangelical Free church, where he was a youth leader and a Sunday school teacher. Ed loved to listen to gospel music and loved Jesus with all his heart.

Ed enjoyed building, camping, and swimming; a love he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He would often take his family to the cabin they built together near Mount St. Helens where they enjoyed outdoor activities like riding dirtbikes and floating the Toutle River. He could always be heard whistling a tune while working, or telling a joke to his grandchildren and pretending to steal their noses.

A potluck-style memorial will be held on July 23, 2021, from 2-6 p.m. at the Huffman family home in Yacolt, Wash. All who knew him are welcome.
