Cruise-in will benefit veterans, Amboy Territorial Park

Two nonprofits have partnered to create a new cruise-in event that aims to recoup funding lost throughout the coronavirus pandemic after many of their essential fundraisers were canceled over the past 16 months.

Amboy Territorial Park and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12028 will put on its first Territorial Park Cruise-In, which is scheduled for Aug. 21.

Almost all of the VFW’s operating budget comes from fundraising, said Quartermaster Vince Myers. The park hosts the VFW because the group doesn’t have a building of its own.

“The cruise is a public invitation to come out, enjoy the park and look at each other’s cars and motorcycles,” Myers said.

The event will also include several raffle drawings and will feature vendors in the park. The sportsman raffle, which started about 10 years ago, will feature prizes for those interested in fishing and hunting, like rifles, fishing poles and pistols.

The Territorial Park raffle is $1 per ticket and proceeds will go toward the park.

The 50-50 drawing is also $1 per ticket or 25 tickets for $20. Half of the money raised from the raffle will go toward the nonprofits and the other half will go toward the raffle winner.

To participate in the poker run, it is $5 per card. The proceeds will be split between the two nonprofits.

A $5 parking fee will also be required for attendees, Myers said.

The raffle drawings will start around 4 p.m. on Aug. 21, with help from Miss Clark County, Miss Teen Clark County and Miss Teen Greater Vancouver.

“We’re looking forward to having the resources to help veterans in North Clark County,” Myers said. “The park is looking forward to being able to keep running.”

Myers said it’s unknown if the Cruise-in will hold another iteration of the event next year.

The Cruise-in will run from 11 a.m. until dusk on Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Amboy Territorial Park, 21400 NE 399th St.

“We’re going to make it a fun and easy way for everybody to have a relaxing day,” Myers said.
