The Clark County Council is seeking applications for one of three positions on the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District board of trustees, according to a news release from Clark County.

The position is reserved for Clark County residents living outside the Vancouver and Camas city limits. The term is for seven years and begins January 2022, the release stated.

To be considered, applicants should have an understanding of the current challenges for public libraries, library facilities, and materials such as print books, magazines, DVDs and digital resources. Understanding the district’s funding as a junior taxing district would be helpful as well, stated the release.

Potential trustees will be responsible for policies regarding the district’s 15 locations, two bookmobiles, online services at www.fvrl.org, and the centralized headquarters, the release said. The district includes all of Clark County except Woodland and all of Skamania and Klickitat counties. Camas is also excluded, as it is served by the independent Camas Public Library.

The district serves community libraries in Battle Ground, Goldendale, La Center, North Bonneville, Ridgefield, Stevenson, Washougal, White Salmon Valley and Woodland. It also serves four outlets in the urban Vancouver area including downtown, Cascade Park, Three Creeks, and the Vancouver Mall, the release said. As for the Yale Valley Library District, there are two self-service stations in Yacolt and Ariel in Yale Valley, which provide services through an operational agreement.

The board meets every third Monday of the month. Meeting locations will vary among library locations. The schedule of public meetings is available online at fvrl.org/about-us/trustees. At this time, all meetings are being held virtually.

Anyone who is interested in serving on the board should send a cover letter and resume to Michelle Pfenning, County Manager’s Office, at P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver 98666-5000. Emails can also be sent to michelle.pfen ning@clark.wa.gov or faxed to 360-397-6058. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19.
