On a 70-degree-plus afternoon in October, on Camas School District property, the Copper brothers from Battle Ground High School earned first and second place in the boys 4A Greater St. Helens League District Cross Country Championship on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Battle Ground senior Trae Copper ran the course in 15 minutes 27.1 seconds, crossing the finish line first, while his brother, Battle Ground junior Vance Copper ran just 4.3 seconds slower at 15 minutes 31.4 seconds and finished in second place.

“I’m really happy to go one, two with my brother,” Trae Copper told reporters. “Watch out for him next year.”

Trae Copper has goals for the upcoming regional and state competition, with finishing on the podium at the top of his list.

“Being a little greedy I’d like to win state, but realistically top five,” Copper said.

The Battle Ground Varsity Boys edged out their competition by one point to claim the Team District Championship title as well.  The Copper brothers and their teammates are running very solid and are ready to make a push in the postseason.

“If all of us have a good day I think we could win regionals and podium at state,” Trae Copper said. “I think that would really be a great achievement for us.”
