Parade of Bands: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. Join the Hazel Dell community for the return of the Parade of Bands. The parade will feature dozens of high school marching bands from across the Pacific Northwest, along with floats and equestrian entries. Used book sale: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. Join the Friends of the La Center Community Library for a pop-up book sale that will feature fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books for sale. Hardbacks are $1 and pocketbooks are 50 cents. Proceeds will benefit library programs for all ages. The sale is located at 1411 NE Lockwood Creek Road, La Center. Introduction to vegetable gardening: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 28. Join the WSU Master Gardeners as they host a workshop on vegetable gardening, which includes site selection, soil preparation, crop selection, pest and disease management, irrigation, and more. The event is accessible to beginners and participants are expected to dress for the weather and bring water. It will be held in Hazel Dell. An exact location will be provided upon registration. Hockinson Fun Days: 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 3, and 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. Join the Hockinson community for the Fun Days festival. On June 3, there will be bingo from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and live performances from the Hockinson High School theater company from 8 to 10 p.m. at the high school. On June 4, Fire District 3 will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m., there will be a marketplace bazaar at the Hockinson Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., a parade from noon to 1 p.m., and a carnival from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. at the community center’s upper parking lot. There will also be a cruise-in and live music at Elim Church Lawn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hockinson High School is located at 16819 NE 159th St., Brush Prairie; Fire District 3 is at 17718 NE 159th St., Brush Prairie; Hockinson Community Center is at 15916 NE 182nd Ave., Brush Prairie; and Elim Church is at 15815 NE 182nd Ave., Brush Prairie. Our Days Steamboat Festival: Saturday, July 9 for citywide garage sales; 7:30 a.m. on July 29 for parade, 8 a.m. for car show; and 10 a.m. for everything else on Saturday, July 30 for the festival. Join the La Center community for its Our Days Steamboat Festival, which will feature a parade and movies, as well as a festival the following day which includes a car show, bingo, beer gardens, and barbecue. The parade will start at La Center Middle School, 2001 NE Lockwood Creek Road, and end at Fifth and Cedar streets. The events on July 30 will be located at Holley Park, 1000 E. Fourth St., La Center.
