Kindy Club Night: 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18. La Center Elementary School will host a Kindy Club Night for its incoming students. Students and parents will work on activities that will prepare students for school. Kindergarten registration for the upcoming school year is open. Children must turn 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to enter kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. Registration is available online at lacenterschools.org or at the elementary office at 700 E. Fourth St.  between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Parents and guardians must bring their child’s immunization record and a copy of their legal birth certificate. People are asked to register their children as early as possible.

Battle Ground High School Drama Club: 7 p.m. on May 18-20. The Battle Ground High School drama club is pleased to present “Wonderland: Alice’s Rock and Roll Adventure.” Doors open to The Lair at Battle Ground High School at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the door (cash only). There will be sign language interpretation available for the show on Thursday, May 18. Runtime is about 90 minutes with a 12-minute intermission. Hazel Dell Parade of Bands: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20. The 57th annual Hazel Dell Parade of Bands will include 25 local bands, parade floats, classic cars and more. Several roads will be closed for the parade. Starting at 8 a.m., Hazel Dell Avenue will be closed from 78th to 99th streets. At 10 a.m., 63rd Street from Hazel Dell Avenue to Highway 99 will be closed, along with Highway 99 from 63rd Street to 79th Street. Used Book Sale: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. The Friends of the La Center Library are sponsoring a Pop-up Book Sale that will feature fiction, nonfiction and children’s books for sale. The prices are $1 for hardback and large paperback books and $.50 for small paperback books. The proceeds will benefit library programs for all ages. Book and a movie: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 22. Join the Battle Ground Senior Citizens group for a book and a movie at the Battle Ground Senior Center at 116 NE Third Ave. in Battle Ground. Lewis River Rotary Club Meeting: 5:45 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23. Join the Lewis River Rotary Club for its meeting. Visitors are welcome to attend. Amboy Memorial Day Ceremony: 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29. The event is hosted by The American Legion Tum Tum Post 168 of Amboy and will feature full military honors and an after-ceremony lunch provided by the North County Lions. This is a patriotic, family-friendly event for any and all to come and participate in. The event will be located at Territorial Park in Amboy at 21400 NE 399th St.



Daughters of the Pioneers Meeting: 12:30 p.m. on June 1. Potluck starts at 12 p.m. They will have an officer installation. Member Pepper Toelle Kim will briefly discuss the “(Her)Story: Founders, Leaders, and Visionaries” exhibit about the 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage in the U.S. Potluck will begin at noon in the brick room and the meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m.. La Center Spring Cleanup: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 3. The City of La Center will be hosting their spring cleanup and shred day at the La Center High School parking lot. They ask that no larger than a 20 gallon trash can be brought for shredding. Ammunition, asbestos, biological waste, business waste, containers over 5 gallon size, electric vehicle batteries, explosives, marine flares, medical sharps and smoke detectors will not be allowed. La Center High School is located at 725 NE Highland Road in La Center.

Vacation Bible School: 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 26 to Thursday, June 29. Join Bethel Lutheran Church for “Stellar VBS: Shine Jesus’ Light.” It will be held at the church, which is located at 12919 NE 159th St. in Brush Prairie. The Vacation Bible School will feature teamwork-building games, songs, Bible learning activities and more. It is open to pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students. Miss Teen competition: 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. The Miss Teen La Center Scholarship Program, which has been renamed to the Miss Teen La Center North County Scholarship Program, will hold its competition at La Center Middle School at 2001 NE Lockwood Creek Road. The program has expanded its competition to include Woodland, Battle Ground, Yacolt and Amboy.
