The Clark County Commission on Aging will focus its efforts this year on “Innovation through Connection,” as well as the need to connect people to resources, information, and to each other on a personal level.
A news release stated connections were compromised by the COVID-19 pandemic and will remain a challenge going forward.
“With the idea of effective connectivity at the forefront of the conversation, the commission created a community member survey meant to reveal connectivity issues that diverse members of our county are currently facing,” the release stated. “The commission hopes the information obtained from this survey and the 2022 commission meetings will spur innovative thinking around the ways in which organizations and aging adults connect with and to one another.”
The first meeting will be on April 20. It will feature experts from organizations like Community in Motion, CDM Caregiving Services, Meals on Wheels, Vancouver Housing Authority and the Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities of Southwest Washington.
Moderators will discuss topics regarding the elderly with guests and will also answer questions from the audience.
The commission’s meetings start at 4:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month and are currently held in a virtual format online at clark.wa.gov/community-planning/commis
sion-aging-meetings.
According to the release, the meetings will focus on outreach strategies which will mobilize people who support older individuals such as friends, family, religious leaders, volunteer coordinators, and others. The goal is to gain knowledge of supports and programs to further assist them.
Aside from Innovation through Connection, the Commission on Aging will start each meeting by focusing on the program of the month. The informational session on an existing program in Clark County will educate the public about the community resources it provides, the release stated.
The April 20 meeting will highlight the Faith Partners for Housing Home Share Program.
