In December, J.D. Power recognized Clark Public Utilities (CPU) as the highest-ranking utility in residential customer satisfaction among midsize electricity providers in the Western United States.
The J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study measures customer satisfaction with residential electric utilities by examining eight key dimensions, which cover all areas of utility operations: safety and reliability, problem resolution, ease, digital channels, people, cost, trust and information provided.
Surveyed customers rated Clark Public Utilities highest in six of the eight dimensions the study observed, a press release by CPU stated.
In the middle of December, an overnight windstorm knocked out power for around 98,000 CPU customers. In a matter of hours, power was restored for over 60,000 customers with all power being restored in a 24-hour period.
CPU Communications Manager Dameon Pesanti stated in an email that 200 field employees and contractors were working to restore services for both water and electric systems for that December windstorm.
“Clark Public Utilities has ranked highest in customer satisfaction in our class in 17 of the 18 years we’ve been large enough to qualify for this study,” said Nancy Barnes, president of the Clark Public Utilities Board of Commissioners, in the press release. “This study uses rigorous methods to survey customers of eligible utilities, so as a commissioner this ranking is a significant achievement and testament to the hard work and dedication of the employees working to keep the lights on in Clark County.”
J.D. Power, a global leader in consumer insights, advisory services and data and analytics, designs and finances the study, CPU stated. The study acts as a standardized measure of satisfaction available for the electric residential utility industry. More than 100,000 residential electric utility customers throughout the U.S. responded online to the study, according to CPU. Based on these responses, the study compared 152 electric utility brands, collectively serving over 109 million households.
“The results of this annual study are part of how we evaluate progress and identify ways to improve and increase the value we provide to customers every day,” said Lena Wittler, Clark Public Utilities CEO and General Manager, in the release.
The West region covers Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, Nevada and Utah. Midsize utilities in the report serve between 100,000 and 499,999 residential customers, CPU stated in the release.
CPU provides electric service to about 241,000 customers throughout Clark County, the utility states. J.D. Power is.
