Clark County Jail staff recovered an improvised cutting weapon during a recent routine cell inspection, according to a social media post from the jail.

The item was found hidden behind a security bar inside a housing unit. Jail officials said it had been made from a standard inmate pencil with a small sharpened piece of metal attached.

Following the discovery, staff conducted a full search of the cell. Additional nuisance contraband was also found and removed, including four cups of pruno, a type of homemade alcohol that can be made in correctional facilities.

The individuals assigned to the cell were separated, interviewed and issued infractions in accordance with jail policy.

Jail officials said routine inspections are conducted regularly to help maintain safety and security for people housed in the facility, staff and others who enter the jail.
