Students may create a video, up to 90 seconds long, on smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, home evacuation plans or the top national causes of house fires. Videos may be recorded via phone or other electronic device, a press release by Fire District 3 stated.

Students ages 5 to 18 within grades K-12 from any local district or community may participate. Children and their parents or guardians must fill out a participation form, the press release stated. The form is available online at shorturl.at/zbzvk.

Videos may be submitted online via Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Twitter. When posting videos, participants must include the social media handle for Fire District 3. Video submissions must also include the hashtag #FD3firesafety. Details for online submission are available at shorturl.at/FU1rC.

Award categories are divided into kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through eighth grades and ninth through 12th grades. First-place winners in each category will receive a cash prize, the press release stated.
