City announces the return of Battle Ground University

The City of Battle Ground has announced the return of a program that provides people with an in-depth look into how the city operates.

Battle Ground University (BGU) was originally introduced in 2006. It is designed to educate, engage and empower the community, stated a news release from the city.

Classes will be taught by city staff, who will serve as the “faculty,” throughout the program, stated the release.

The program will cover a wide range of topics like city administration on Aug. 29, community development on Sept. 12, finance on Sept. 26, public works on Oct. 10 and public safety on Oct. 24.

A graduation ceremony for BGU students will take place at the Nov. 6 city council meeting.

The public is invited to participate in a brief online survey that will help inform the program curriculum. Staff would like to know what city services people are interested in learning more about, stated the release.

Classes are free and open to the public. They are available to anyone who is 18 or older.

Student registration is open until 5 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Applications are available online at cityofbg.org/BGU.
