The Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) celebrated the service of its deputies, civilian employees and community members during its annual awards ceremony at Clark College on Thursday, Jan. 23. Over three dozen individuals were recognized for their heroic actions in protecting the public and responding to critical situations throughout 2024.

The ceremony highlighted the courage and dedication of law enforcement personnel who displayed exceptional skill and quick thinking in the face of danger. Among the most notable recognitions were the Life-Saving Awards, presented to those who acted decisively in medical emergencies to save lives. Several deputies were also honored for their response during the Vancouver Mall shooting on Oct. 31. Deputies rushed to the chaotic scene, providing life-saving aid and securing the area.

“The heroic efforts of our employees reflect the dedication and integrity at the core of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff John Horch said in a news release. “Their willingness to act in critical moments has a profound impact on their colleagues and the people we serve. I am deeply grateful for their bravery, selflessness and commitment to public safety.”

The ceremony also honored more than a dozen deputies for their bravery during a tense September standoff involving an armed suspect. The suspect fired multiple rounds at an armored vehicle carrying law enforcement personnel, but thanks to the deputies’ quick and effective response, the situation was brought to a safe resolution.

Several civilians were also recognized for their critical contributions in emergencies and crime prevention. Ian Roadifer was awarded for his heroic rescue of a missing 7-year-old girl at Lake Merwin in August. Roadifer, who had been fishing, heard the girl’s cries for help and immediately sprang into action, guiding search teams for 12 hours until the girl was safely found.

Jacob Lind was commended for his swift intervention during an attempted carjacking in Hazel Dell. By confronting the armed suspect and providing crucial details to deputies, Lind helped lead to the arrest of the carjacker.

Additionally, Shane Town and Dylan Sales, asset protection specialists at Target in Hazel Dell, were celebrated for their partnership with CCSO in tackling retail theft. Their collaboration with law enforcement led to significant arrests and a 40% theft resolution rate, making their store a leader in crime prevention in the region.

Several prestigious awards were presented, including the Medal of Merit and Distinguished Service Award, recognizing exemplary contributions by deputies, detectives and civilians. Notable recipients of the Medal of Merit included Sgt. Scott Gilberti, deputy Phil Walker and deputy Tanner Pallamounter, while Life-Saving Medals were awarded to sergeants Greg Agar and Zach Nielsen.

Further accolades were given to outstanding employees in various categories, including the Support Branch Employee of the Year award, which went to Trina Sanford, and the Enforcement Branch Deputy of the Year award, presented to deputy Phil Walker.
