A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for a California man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a Longview child.

Detjen W. Haynes, 42, of Shingletown, California, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree rape of a child and sexual exploitation of a minor on Oct. 20 in Cowlitz County Superior Court. His sentencing date is set for Dec. 15.

Based on court records, prosecutors are recommending Haynes serve a sentence of 13 years and six months for both of the rape charges and eight years, plus six months for sexual exploitation of a minor. All prison sentences are to run concurrently, and he would be required to register as a sex offender, serve community custody and pay restitution.

According to arresting documents, on May 30, 2023, the victim disclosed to a friend that Haynes, who was living with the victim’s family in Longview at the time, sexually assaulted the child. The pair then told the victim’s mother, who reported the assault to the police.

During an interview at the Children’s Justice & Advocacy Center of Cowlitz County, the victim confided that there were three separate incidents in which Haynes touched and sexually assaulted the child.

Haynes initially also faced eight additional charges, including a third first-degree rape of a child charge, two first-degree child molestation charges, plus indecent liberties, and communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

A no-contact order has been issued, and Haynes has to surrender any weapons he may have.
