Battle Ground Public Schools is seeking applicants to fill a soon-to-be vacant position on the district’s board of directors after board member Rob Henrikson announced his resignation last week.

Henrikson made the announcement at the Jan. 23 school board meeting. His resignation is effective Feb. 28.

Henrikson has represented BGPS’ second district since he was appointed in March 2019, a release from the district stated. He was later elected to the position in November 2019.

During his time on the board, he served on the audit and legislative committees for the district and represented the school board as an ex-officio member of the Battle Ground Education Foundation’s board of directors.

“Rob has positively affected thousands of staff members and students during his tenure through his thoughtful decision making and commitment to what’s best for those whom he represents,” said BGPS Superintendent Denny Waters. "We are grateful for his service."

The BGPS board of directors is now accepting applications to fill the vacant district 2 director position. Applicants must be registered to vote and live in director district 2, which serves central and eastern portions of the district, the release stated.

BGPS employees are not eligible to serve as board members per state law, the release stated.

The appointment is temporary, as the position will be up for election in the August primary, if applicable, and the November general election.

Those seeking to apply are asked to provide a letter of interest; a resume with full name, physical address including zip code, email address and telephone number where they can be reached during the day; and a list of three references with contact information.

Materials may be submitted to Sandy U’Ren, the executive assistant to the superintendent and board of directors, by email at uren.sandy@battlegroundps.org. Applicants who wish to mail hard copies should send their materials to Battle Ground Public Schools board of directors c/o Sandy U’Ren, P.O. Box 200, Battle Ground, Washington, 98604.

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, the release stated. Board interviews and selection will occur sometime between Feb. 21 and Feb. 24. The new director will be sworn in on March 13.
