While the development sign reads “Opening early 2024,” the West Main Commons mixed-use project has not yet broken ground on Battle Ground’s Main Street.
As of Jan. 24, 2025, no action has taken place at the site, 1305 W. Main St. Details about tåhe project was first announced in September 2022 when The Reflector reported that the Battle Ground City Council voted 5-2 to approve the West Main Commons development agreement between the city and the developer, Deacon Development, on Sept. 6 of that year.
In contrast, Ridgefield’s fully operational Costco was first announced just a couple of months before the West Main Commons.
According to the city of Battle Ground public information portal, the project is on hold.
“Our staff is actively reviewing building plans and the ‘On Hold’ status displayed in Energov (public information portal) is an administrative note indicating that the building permits are not ready for issuance,” Battle Ground Communications Manager Alisha Smith stated in an email. “The land use application is approved, and the proposed development is allowable under the Regional Center (RC) zoning.”
According to the information portal, each building’s behind-the-scenes work sits at roughly 5% completed. This includes permitting, reviews and more.
As of 2022 reports, the $85 million project would feature 220 market-rate apartments ranging from studio to two-bedroom units and 36,000 square feet of commercial space on the project’s north end. The development would be located to the west of Battle Ground’s Best Western hotel.
According to the project’s website, the development would be a new “all-inclusive retail and medical experience.” In addition to three buildings of retail, a two-story 16,000-square-foot medical building would be included. The 225-unit apartment community will be connected by a public promenade.
According to the project’s retail brochure, which stated the space would be available in the summer of 2024, building D would be a drive-thru Brewed Awakenings; building C would include a dental space and the 4,000-square-foot “Barbie Lounge,” while building A would include an OnPoint Credit Union.
The medical brochure did not provide any hints as to who would inhibit the space.
The West Main Commons project currently has no updated timeline.
