The Battle Ground Tigers baseball squad faced off against two tough programs in their bracket while the Ridgefield Spudders made it to the championship match in an eight-team 2A bracket during the Baseballism Kickoff Classic last week.
The Spudders had homefield advantage for the Kickoff Classic at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex but came up well short in the title game against W.F. West High School from Chehalis with a 13-2 loss on Saturday, March 22.
Ridgefield began their tournament journey on Thursday, March 20, with a 13-10 win over North Kitsap High School. The Spuds knocked 15 hits in the game with Liam Ostrom blasting two home runs. On Saturday, March 22, a lower-scoring affair with the Fife Trojans concluded after a walkoff single by Henry Wikstrom drove in Wyatt Hemmelman for the 4-3 victory.
The Spudders next play at Rochester High School on Wednesday, March 26, at 4:30 p.m.
The Tigers held on to a 1-0 lead over the Mount Vernon Bulldogs into the seventh with two outs until a wild pitch brought in the tying run. In the ninth inning, the Tigers would lose 4-3 in their Friday, March 21, matchup. James Gill III threw four scoreless innings against the Bulldogs.
On Saturday, March 22, Battle Ground improved on offense from a two-hit Friday to an 11-hit Saturday in a 7-3 win over Tahoma High School. Jayden Sivits hit a home run and Collin McGowan had two doubles.
The Tigers next play in Bellevue in a Saturday, March 29, doubleheader against Issaquah and Newport high schools.
