Battle Ground resident earns Commission on Aging Silver Citizen Award

The Commission on Aging will present Battle Ground resident Bev Jones and Vancouver resident Larry Smith the Silver Citizen Award to honor their community contributions.

The Silver Citizen Award honors the contributions older adults make within the Clark County community. The award is open to any resident over the age of 60 who has positively impacted their community through acts of service and volunteerism, a news release by Clark County stated.

Jones is known for her selfless volunteerism across the community, according to a press release. Jones serves in multiple organizations, including the Battle Ground Lions Club, North Clark County Community Food Bank and Battle Ground Education Foundation. She received the Battle Ground Citizen of the Year award in 2016, the news release stated.



Smith has a long history of public service, having served as a Vancouver City Council member and mayor pro tempore. Smith serves in multiple organizations, including the American Red Cross, Clark County Pride Committee and Clark County Parks Foundation. Smith also founded the Community Military Appreciation Committee, which hosts events to honor veterans across the county. He received the First Citizen Award in 2017, the news release stated.

The awards ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver. It can also be accessed online or by phone at shorturl.at/RWuEu.

The Silver Citizen recipients are selected by the Commission on Aging, a nine-member volunteer group that implements the Aging Readiness Plan and assesses the needs of aging community members. To learn more about the commission, visit clark.wa.gov/aging.
