A Battle Ground man has been arrested for vehicular assault following a crash in Hockinson on Sunday night.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on July 11, Clark County Fire District 3 and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 17200 block of Northeast 159th Street, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Upon arrival, responders found the driver of a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, later identified as Jaxon Jondahl, 20, of Battle Ground, walking around the scene, while the driver of a 1995 Toyota Camry, identified as Nicholas Crown, 35, of Hockinson, was unresponsive in his vehicle.
According to investigators, evidence showed the Camry driven by Crown turned on Northeast 159th Street from Northeast 172nd Avenue and was hit in the rear by the Chevrolet driven by Jondahl, who was traveling on 159th at a significant speed.
The collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, causing the Camry to roll and land on its top in the middle of the road.
Crown was extricated from his vehicle, the release stated, and taken to an area hospital. Based on Crown’s injuries, Jondahl was arrested and booked for a count of vehicular assault. According to jail records, Jondahl had additional charges of driving under the influence and a referred ignition interlock device violation. Significant speed and impairment on the part of Jondahl are believed to have caused the accident.
The crash is still under investigation, according to the release. Northeast 159th Street was closed for several hours and opened back up at 4 a.m. on July 12.
