On Monday, March 17, the Battle Ground City Council unanimously approved Ordinance 25-03, advancing efforts to refine the city’s salary commission process.
The salary commission, originally established in 2021, is a three-member board responsible for reviewing and setting council salaries and health insurance benefits. The ordinance removes the requirement for the salary commission to hold two public hearings on city council salaries and instead mandates a public comment period at each commission meeting.
The ordinance also clarifies that the commission will meet every two years, starting in 2025, to fulfill these duties. Any salary or benefit changes determined by the commission will take effect automatically, without council approval, unless overturned by a voter referendum.
A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for April 21, allowing community members to provide input before final adoption.
