Area high school equestrian teams compete in first meet

The 2016 Washington High School Equestrian Teams (WAHSET) season recently kicked off for several area teams this January.

District 3, which includes teams from Hockinson High School, Battle Ground High School and Woodland High School (co-oping with Cedar Tree Classical Christian School), recently had their first WAHSET meet of the season. The meet was held Jan. 21-24, at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

Here are the results for the three Clark County area teams:

Hockinson

The Hockinson High School Equestrian Team placed in the top 10 in several different team events, including third place in in-hand obstacle relay (Kayla Bryans, Shaylee Coleman, Rachel Mayes and Anna Uusitalo); ninth place in in-hand obstacle relay (Bella Campzano, Caidyn Gentry, Madison Gray and McKenzie Lane); third place in team sorting (Uusitalo and Elle Tilkin); second place in two-man birangle (Lane and Tilkin); and second place in working pairs (Coleman and Mayes).

Individual events and top 10 placings are included here. Bryans: fifth place in trail equitation, fourth place in showmanship and fourth place in stock seat equitation; Campzano: third place in barrels and ninth place in pole bending; Coleman: second place in hunt seat equitation, second place in trail equitation, sixth place in showmanship and fourth place in stock seat equitation; Amelie Fraki: fourth place in trail equitation and eighth place in stock seat equitation; Gentry: fifth place in reining, seventh place in showmanship and ninth place in stock seat equitation; Gray: ninth place in dressage; Lane: seventh place in dressage; Mayes: first place in hunt seat equitation, seventh place in trail equitation, fourth place in showmanship and sixth place in stock seat equitation; Tilkin: first place in dressage, fifth place in barrels and sixth place in figure 8; Uusitalo: ninth place in individual flags.

Battle Ground

The Battle Ground High School Equestrian Team placed in the top 10 in a few different team events, including third place in freestyle six-plus (Cheyanne Anderson, Dixie Anderson, Hallye Byford, Anna Korum, Natalie Quinn and Dana Waddell); seventh place in in-hand obstacle relay (Cheyanne Anderson, Dixie Anderson, Taylre Byford, Elena Kent and Waddell); 10th place in team sorting (Jessica Statham and Emily Wagner); eighth place in working pairs (Quinn and Waddell); sixth place in working pairs (Statham and Wagner).



Individual events and top 10 placings are included here. Dixie Anderson: sixth place in in-hand trail; Statham: fourth place in in-hand trail; Wagner: eighth place in trail equitation, second place in reining, 10th place in stock seat equitation and third place in working rancher.

Woodland

The Woodland High School Equestrian Team placed in the top 10 in several different team events, including second place in Canadian flag race (Serenity Gibbs, Jaiden Marshall, Samantha Ripp and Sarah Schmalenberger); second place in freestyle fours (Marshall, Ripp, Jessica Sayward, Schmalenberger and James Stone); third place in freestyle fours (Addison Andrews, Alexandra Hollar, Michael Johnson, Russia Maxson and Ellie Newby); first place in in-hand obstacle relay (Ashlee Ball, Gibbs, Marshall, Lindsey Paul and Stone); fifth place in in-hand obstacle relay (Hollar, Maxson, Sophie Ryder, Sayward and Megan Sheets); sixth place in in-hand obstacle relay (Addison Andrews, Johnson, Ashley Mars, Newby and Alexis Newton); fourth place in two-man birangle (Marshall and Ripp); seventh place in two-man birangle (Gibbs and Schmalenberger); seventh place in working pairs (Sayward and Stone); third place in working pairs (Ball and Paul).

Ball: sixth place in dressage and eighth place in showmanship; Gibbs: ninth place in showmanship; Hollar: sixth place in reining and sixth place in saddle seat equitation; Johnson: seventh place in working rancher and seventh place in individual flags; Mars: fifth place in in-hand trail and seventh place in reining; Marshall: third place in in-hand trail; Newby: sixth place in saddle seat equitation and ninth place in working rancher; Paul: eighth place in dressage, third place in hunt seat equitation, second place in showmanship and first place in stock seat equitation; Ripp: sixth place in pole bending; Sophie Ryder: 10th place in working rancher; Sayward: fourth place in reining; Sheets: eighth place in reining and fifth place in saddle seat equitation; Stone: second place in dressage, seventh place in hunt seat equitation, eighth place in trail equitation and first place in saddle seat equitation.

Upcoming meets

The second meet for District 3 will be held March 10-13 at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds. The first meet for District 2, which includes the La Center High School team (co-oping with Kingsway Christian School), will be held Feb. 12-14 at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

The first meet for District 4, which includes the Ridgefield High School and Prairie High School (co-oping with Kingsway Christian School) teams, was held Jan. 29-31 at the Washington Horsemen Tacoma Unit in Spanaway, WA. Results for the District 4 meet were not available by The Reflector’s press time.
