From the Ridgefield Spudders boys beating the Evergreen Conference’s No. 1 seed to the Woodland Beaver girls rolling past Tumwater, area basketball teams experienced success in the district tournament round.
This week, the district tournaments for boys and girls basketball renewed fierce competition on Tuesday, Feb. 18, and continues into the weekend, concluding on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Locally, Woodland High School will play as host to the 2A boys winner to state, loser out games on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Ridgefield High School will host 2A girls winner to state, loser out games on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
Prairie boys
Kickstarted by Carson Morningstar’s 13-point first quarter, the Falcons beat Lakes High School 66-61 in the opening round of the 3A District 3/4 tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 12. The Falcons followed up with a 64-53 loss to Federal Way High School on Friday, Feb. 14. Prairie found themselves in a loser out matchup against White River High School on Tuesday, Feb. 18, but results were unavailable as of press time. A win on Feb. 18 provides two opportunities to clinch a state berth.
Ridgefield boys
The Ridgefield Spudders beat the 2A Evergreen Conference No. 1 seed, Black Hills High School, on Saturday, Feb. 15, with a 54-49 finish. They next play at Mark Morris High School on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the 2A District 4 tournament semifinals. Results were unavailable at press time. A win clinches a state berth and a loss sends the Spudders to a loser out, winner to state matchup.
La Center boys
The Wildcats kicked off their 1A District 4 tournament with a 65-47 win over Tenino High School on Saturday, Feb. 15. They next play at Seton Catholic High School on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. A win clinches a state berth while a loss sends the Wildcats to a winner to state, loser out matchup.
Woodland girls
The Woodland Beavers rolled over Tumwater High School on Friday, Feb. 14, with a 63-27 win in the 2A District 4 tournament. The Beavers next played at W.F. West High School on Monday, Feb. 17, but results unavailable at press time. A win sends Woodland to a state berth while a loss sends the Beavers to a winner to state, loser out matchup.
Ridgefield girls
The Spudders started their 2A District 4 tournament with a 70-33 loss on Friday, Feb. 14, to W.F. West High School. The Spudders next played Tumwater High School on Monday, Feb. 17. Results were unavailable at press time. A win sends Ridgefield to a loser out, winner to state matchup and a loss ends their season.
