The wall: fund it or not?

Posted

The cost to Americans for funding the border wall is $25 billion, or $74 per man, woman, and child in the U.S. This is a onetime cost.

The cost of Americans funding illegal immigrants is $116 billion per year, or $341 a year per immigrant for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. This is a yearly cost and is net of any taxes paid by illegal immigrants.

Three hundred and sixty-one people, on average, die trying to cross the border illegally each year. More than 7,216 people have died in the past 20 years.

Why do illegal immigrants cross the border illegally? Because 90 percent are not fleeing terror, gangs or discrimination, they are seeking better opportunity than they have in their countries. If they cross illegally, they can stay in the country, work and send money home over the border until, if and when they are caught. Money is sent over the border to the tune of $2 billion a month. That money doesn’t come back to this country once it leaves.

Venezuela has one of the largest oil deposits in the world. Yet, Venezuelans have little opportunity under the socialist regime. It is up to Venezuela to help its people, not the United States.

Guatemala has abundant mineral reserves that include uranium, sand and gravel, nickel, limestone, petroleum, coal, gold, copper, iron ore and cobalt.

Honduras is known for its rich natural resources, including minerals, coffee, tropical fruit, and sugar cane, as well as for its growing textiles industry, which serves the international market.

Mexico’s natural resources include petroleum, silver, copper, gold, lead, zinc, natural gas, and timber.

El Salvador’s natural resources include hydropower, geothermal power, petroleum, arable land.

Forty-nine percent of Central American and 57 percent of Mexican immigrants have less than a high school education. Most that come here work in entry-level jobs. This takes away entry level jobs for our youth and those entering the workforce.

It is up to the people in these countries to elect leadership or revolt against bad leadership and exploitation, just like our country did.

In a survey conducted by the National Border Patrol Council, the agent’s union, they overwhelmingly supported adding a “wall system” in strategic locations, embracing President Trump’s argument that it will boost their ability to nab or deter would-be illegal immigrants. Agents also said they need the government to change the “catch and release” policy. They often have to immediately release illegal border crossers they arrest, giving them the chance to disappear into the shadows with the 11 million other illegal immigrants in the U.S. We need to E-verify and detain illegals until their hearing, restrict welfare and build a wall. To save lives and money we need to get rid of incentives. We need comprehensive reform. If we don’t fix it now, then when? Build the wall, it’s a good start.
