Car smashes into Enzo’s Acres

Enzo’s Acres co-owner Dawn Rennie was taking part in an online meeting when a car came crashing into her office. Shortly after noon Jan. 9 first responders arrived at the dog training business’ location on South Parkway Avenue where a 2009 Hyundai Genesis had gone through the storefront.

Battle Ground City/Police spokesperson Bonnie Gilberti said the car was pulling into a parking space but accelerated forward. The driver, Carmen Ochoa of Portland, had a prosthetic from the knee down that likely got stuck on the accelerator, leading to the crash.

According to the police report no citations were given to Ochoa. Rennie said the driver was a long-time client of the business.

Given the orientation of her desk Rennie didn’t see the car coming before the crash.

“I heard it first and didn’t know what it was, and then realized everything behind me had fallen on me and that there was a car next to me,” Rennie remembers. Two employees came into her office before she was aware of what actually happened.

“I was in total shock,” Rennie said. Her employees helped remove from the debris to help her exit the office.

Rennie was evaluated by fire and medics but did not need additional treatment, Gilberti said. Rennie said she has visited the doctor a few times since the accident, receiving whiplash, bruising and some pain but nothing serious.

Only one dog was with Rennie at the time of the accident, her son’s, who was not injured, “just scared” from the crash, she said.

The Parkway Avenue location is fairly new for Enzo’s Acres, as Rennie said they had moved in last fall. She didn’t have an estimate of damages but noted outside of the storefront wall furniture in her office was destroyed.

“I’m very thankful that it wasn’t any worse and that nobody got seriously injured,” Rennie said.
