Keo Thai opened on July 5, 2006 and is located at 1800 SW 9th Ave., Battle Ground. They’ve taken great pride serving the community for the past 14 years. The restaurant is owned by Keo and Darouny Sayavong. They are open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday through Sunday 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are closed on Monday.

Since opening in spring 2018 in the renovated basement below Old Town Battle Grounds at 316 E Main St., Battle Ground, Dungeon Donuts has been hard at work making delectable donuts for the community. The shop is owned by Dianne Harris and is open Tuesday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and are closed on Monday.

Libby Ek, Earthen Cup Bistro - Winner

Libby Ek has perfected the art of making a balanced cup of joe after 17 years as a barista. 

“You can have a drink with a lot of flavor, but it doesn’t have to be overly sweet,” she said. 

Ek is the owner of Earthen Cup Bistro, located at 278-108 N Parkway Ave., Battle Ground. They are open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are close on Sundays.

Hockinson Cafe  - Winner

Hockinson Cafe move to Battle Ground in 2010. It is located at 219 NW 20th Ave., Battle Ground and owned by Lora Rohde. Hockinson Cafe is known for its whopping portions. According to its staff, getting to know their customers is what earned them best breakfast. 

Hockinson Cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barrel Mountain Brewery - Winner 

When Barrel Mountain Brewery opened in Summer 2015, they made crafting quality beer their top priority. All the recipes are designed by the brewing staff and brewed at the location on 607 E Main St., Battle Ground. The Old Town watering hole is owned by Troy Steigman and is open Sunday through Tuesday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday  11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Opahl Chiropractic, which opened in 2002, is located at 105 N Parkway Ave., Battle Ground. Staff said they love being able to help and care for the community, giving people the ability to freely move when they were once restricted. One of Opdahl’s unique offerings is traction therapy. 

Opahl Chiropractic is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and are closed Saturday and Sunday.

Mill Creek Pub - Winner 

Since opening on November 11, 2011 Mill Creek Pub has focused on providing a unique twist to their cocktails. The pub is owned by Russell Brent and can be found at 1710 SW 9th Ave., Battle Ground. It is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Old Town Battle Grounds- Winner 

Old Town Battle Grounds opened in 2005, and runs out of a renovated church built in 1928, located at 316 E Main St., Battle Ground. They believe they were nominated for best coffee due to offering Stumptown Coffee and using compostable cups to be as earth friendly as possible. Old Town Battle Grounds is owned by Dianne Harris and is open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Candi Snyder from Literary Leftovers - Winner 

Candi Snyder has owned Literary Leftovers for six years and focuses on making sure each guest feels welcome. 

“I treat everyone that comes in the door like a dear friend, and that I’ve known them forever because everyone deserves kindness,” she said. 

Candi can be found behind the book counter at 813 W Main St., Battle Ground. The used bookstore is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and are closed on Sunday and Monday.

Battle Ground Sweet Shoppe  - Winner

After opening in January of 2018, Battle Ground Sweet Shoppe has captured locals hearts — and stomachs. Located at 11 N Parkway Ave., Battle Ground, the shop carries cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, and more. There is also a full coffee bar. 

Olivia Riggs, a Sweet Shoppe barista, thinks they were nominated because of their staff.

“Everyone who’s here is really great and very talented,” she said. “Everyone works really hard and want things to turn out really well.”

Battle Ground Sweet Shoppe is owned by Mary Anne Cheney and is open Tuesday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are closed on Mondays.

Greg Robertson has been a financial adviser since 2000 and attributes winning Readers’ Choice to his knowledge of the area. 

“I was born and raised here, and I’ve always loved helping people in the area,” he said.

Mike Galeotti has been serving wines on Main Street for about three years. His restaurant is unique in that, along with typical patron service,  one can also become a member. 

“We’re not trying to be the busieSt., were just trying to be a second living room for people,” Galeotti said. 

Galeotti welcomes each guest like a friend and helps them find what they like.

“I’ll come out, sit and talk with people,” he said. “If they’ve never had wine before, I’ll help them find a wine they like because I like wine.”

Galeotti’s is located at 715 E Main St., Battle Ground and is open Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The groomers feel they were nominated because they focus on the little things and make sure people feel comfortable leaving their pets. They realize the pets are part of the family. The shop, located at 710 E Main St., Battle Ground, is owned by Adrieon Bister and Lloyd Neste. It is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed on Sunday.

Shelly Fry 

Shelly Fry has been a photographer for six years, with a studio located at 510 E Main St., Battle Ground. She feels that she was nominated for her ability to be close to her clients and capture the moments they are looking for. 

“I have the ability to connect with my seniors and families,” she said. “I’m a local girl. I grew up here. I really understand the area for choosing locations and I always produce quality work.” 

Fry’s studio is open Tuesday through Thursday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s closed Friday, Saturday and Monday.

John Daniel has been a preacher since he was a teenager, and comes from a family of preachers that includes his father, brother, and nephews. His goal is to help people reconnect with God.

“What I would want to be known for is grace, love, and the kindness of God,” he said. 

Crown and Anchor Church has its Sunday gatherings at 1005 Main St., Vancouver, starting at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

In 1967 Richard “Dick” Harris and his friend Chuck Lacy decided to open Dick’s Point S Tire & Auto Service. “We have all the top diagnostic tools that we can use like ultrasounds, digital radiographs, dental radiographs, electric coddery, all of the surgical instruments are top tier. It’s all to better the care of our patents,” said Tina Miller, a veterinarian at Alder Creek. 

They are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and are closed on Sunday.
