Search for candy, treasures at area Easter egg hunts

Rain or shine, area children and families will have a variety of Easter egg hunts and Easter activities to choose from this year, as a number of area organizations are planning activities to celebrate this egg-filled time of year.

Brightly-colored plastic eggs containing candy, chocolate and other goodies will be hidden in various areas waiting to be found by eager children. The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance at various egg hunts and activities.

Some of this year’s egg hunts will be put on by area churches or religious organizations, while others will be put on by area nonprofit organizations. This year, Easter falls on Sun., March 31, and many of the Easter egg hunts will be held Sat., March 30.

The following is a partial list of 2013 Easter egg hunts and other Easter festivities throughout the area:

Amboy

The North Clark Lions Club will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 10 a.m., at Amboy Territorial Park. Children as old as 10 will be able to hunt for 1,200 eggs and there will be three separate areas for each age group. Children ages 1-3 will hunt in the beer garden area, children 4-6 will hunt for eggs in the trees by the park’s entrance and children 7-10 will search in the logging arena. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance to say “hi” to the children and each child will receive a free flower. Special eggs found may be turned in for a prize. Visit www.tdays.org.

Battle Ground

Battle Ground Baptist Church will hold their annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the church, 1110 NW 6th Ave., Battle Ground. There will be an egg hunt, games, crafts, hot dogs, story time and more. (360) 687-7124 or visit www.bgbaptist.com.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will hold their Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 10 a.m., at the church, 14208 NE 249th St., Battle Ground. (360) 687-7455 or visit www.princeofpeace-bgwa.com.

Battle Ground Kiwanis Club will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 9 a.m. game, petting zoo and visit from the Easter Bunny and 10 a.m. egg hunt, at Battle Ground Kiwanis Park, 422 SW 2nd Ave., Battle Ground. They will also be holding a food drive for the North County Community Food Bank in conjunction with the Easter festivities. All families are asked to bring new canned or boxed goods, toiletries, laundry, dish soap or to make a cash donation to the food bank while enjoying the Easter activities.

The Battle Ground Rose Float Princesses will also be on hand to read books to the children. The egg hunt is for children younger than 13. (360) 687-4357.

Brush Prairie

La Center

The La Center Lions Club will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast Sat., March 30, 8-10 a.m. breakfast, 10 a.m. egg hunt, at the Holley Park Community Center, 1000 E. 4th St., La Center. Breakfast cost is $5 per plate. Children ages 1-10 can participate in the egg hunt. There will also be a petting zoo that will include Curly the camel and friends. Amy Chase, achase@tds.net.

Ridgefield

Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene will hold an Easter Egg Hunt and Scavenger Hunt Sat., March 30, 10 a.m., at the church, 747 Pioneer St., Ridgefield. Vancouver

Autism Empowerment, in partnership with The Miracle League of Vancouver, will hold their second annual Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt for Acceptance of All Abilities Sat., March 30, 2-4 p.m., at McKenzie Stadium, 2205 NE 138th Ave., Vancouver. This event is open to individuals of all ages on the autism spectrum or with any special needs, siblings and families. This event is free, donations are appreciated but not required.

There will be multiple egg hunts promoting the theme Acceptance of All Abilities. Hunt times will depend on age. The first hunt will start around 2 p.m. This year, upon request, an optional area will be set up for those who have wheelchairs or walkers that prefer a less crowded hunt.

The Easter Bunny will be in attendance, as will Alexander Master of Marvels (magician), Patricia “Pockets” Bunnell (balloon twister), the Portland Winterhawks cheerleaders, the Portland Aquarium and East/West Martial Arts. There will also be activity tables, professional photography available and more. Every family will receive a goody bag with a free Resource Guide and educational material. Liberty Bible Church of the Nazarene will hold their Easter “Egg-stravaganza” Sat., March 30, 10 a.m.-noon, at the church, 12401 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver. LifePoint Church will hold two Easter Egg Hunts as a part of their “Eggstreme” Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., at the church, 305 NE 192nd Ave., Vancouver. This event is for ages 2 to fifth grade and will feature 25,000 eggs stuffed with candy, inflatables, golden eggs with Nintendo DS, drawings to win Easter baskets, a special needs area and more. Woodland

The Woodland Moose Lodge will sponsor the Woodland Community Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 10 a.m., at Horseshoe Lake Park off of Park Road in Woodland. Yacolt

The Yacolt Citizens’ Committee will host their annual Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 30, 10 a.m., at the North Clark Little League Fields, 202 W. Christy St., Yacolt. Participating age groups are 0 to preschool, kindergarten, first/second grade and third/fourth grade. Plastic candy-filled eggs with be hunted by participants and there will be two prize baskets for each age group for finding the prize egg.
