A students from each school in Ridgefield School District, along with a top employee, were honored during the Oct. 14 school board meeting.

Named students of the month for September were Madison Lee, South Ridge Elementary School; Gabe Meadows, Union Ridge Elementary School; Logan Newman, View Ridge Middle School; and Lily Grunstead, Ridgefield High School. Nam Nguyen, a math teacher at View Ridge Middle School, was named employee of the month.

Teachers and staff members at South Ridge called Lee “an excellent example of a caring and responsible student. Madison has repeatedly shown a willingness to reach out to her classmates and offer help and assistance whenever and wherever needed. Her acts of kindness are sensitive and respectful.”

Meadows, of Union Ridge, “exhibits the life skills of effort, responsibility and perseverance,” according to teachers and staff. “He works hard to complete all of his homework, is helpful to his teachers and peers, and always seems to do so with a wonderful attitude. Gabe takes great pride in his work and we are equally proud of Gabe.”

View Ridge Middle School student Newman was hailed as “a hardworking student who truly enjoys learning. He helps others and works hard to do his best. Logan’s warm smile and positive attitude is a role model for all students.”

Ridgefield High student Grunstead is “an incredible young lady,” according to those who nominated her. “She possesses a great work ethic, is kind and respectful to all, and very involved in school. (Lily) conducts herself with integrity, is kind, caring and works extremely hard for her grades – just a gem.”

View Ridge math teacher Nam Nguyen was lauded for his unique teaching style and technology ability in the classroom. “He is always willing to help those staff members in need of assistance and goes out of his way to do this,” View Ridge employees said. “He works tirelessly for both students and his colleagues, and is always striving to make things better in new ways. He goes above and beyond each and every day.

“He works tirelessly at home to make his lessons better and more interesting for students, writing the morning announcements and editing the students’ video announcements.”

Student of the month and employee of the month awards are new this year at the Ridgefield district. The program to recognize top work by students and employees was initiated by Superintendent Nathan McCann, who came from Arizona to replace former Superintendent Art Edgerly, who retired at the end of last school year.
