Prairie, La Center to host playoff games

Prairie and La Center will each host playoff games this week as area high school girls basketball teams prepare for the postseason in their respective classifications.

Prairie wrapped up a perfect 6-0 record in Class 3A Greater St. Helens League play with a 62-13 win at Fort Vancouver on Feb. 5. Grace Prom scored 16 points to lead the Falcons, who also got 12 points from Emily Peters and 11 each from Cherita Daugherty and Lindsay Asplund.

Prairie, 15-5 on the regular season, will open the postseason with a 7 p.m. home game Wed., Feb. 11 against South Puget Sound League’s No. 5 team.

Class 4A

Battle Ground headed into this week’s final two games of the 4A GSHL with a 5-5 league mark. The Tigers Will finish the season with games against Mountain View and Evergreen.

Battle Ground (8-10 overall) is in the fourth place in the league standings.



Jossilyn Blackman scored 15 points in the Tigers’ 51-32 loss at Skyview on Feb. 6.

Class 1A

La Center avenged an earlier season loss to Kalama with a 65-49 win over the Chinooks Feb. 5 at La Center High School.

Katie Whitten scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats (9-1 in league, 17-3 overall). Andrea Griffee added 19 points for La Center. Prior to the game, Kalama was ranked sixth and La Center was eighth in the latest Associated Press Class 1A girls poll.

La Center will open the postseason with a home game Feb. 6 against Eatonville.
