10 Prairie swimmers competed in the 3A District Championship Friday and Saturday at Kelso placing third behind Kelso and Mountain View.
Every Prairie swimmer had their best times of the season. Swimmers placing in the Championship finals were: freshman Colton Sadler, 3rd in the 500 freestyle and 4th in the 200 freestyle; Junior Nathan Tuck placed 4th in the championship 100 freestyle and 5th in the 100 backstroke; Freshman Johnathan Gibert placed 6th in the championship finals in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke; Sophomore Chase Clary was 5th in the championship 100 freestyle; Freshman Dylan Pederson was 6th in the championship final 100 breaststroke and 5th in consolation 500 freestyle; Junior Blaine Clary was 1st in the consolation 200 individual medley; Freshman Patrick Kurfurst as 2nd in the 200 individual medley consolations and 3rd in the consolation 500 freestyle; Senior Moritz Grimm won the consolation 500 freestyle and was 3rd in the consolation 200 freestyle; CAM junior Ben Jones, swimming for Prairie was 2nd in the consolation 100 butterfly and 4th in the consolation 200 freestyle; and Zeke Cochran won the 100 backstroke consolations and was 4th in the consolation 500 freestyle.
Three Prairie relay teams set new team records. The 200 medley team of Johnathan Gibert, Dylan Pederson, Chase Clary and Zeke Cochran placed 3rd in the championship finals. 200 and 400 freestyle teams of Nathan Tuck, Ben Jones, Moritz Grimm and Colton Sadler were 4th in the 200 and 3rd in the 400. This years team established nine new team records.
Battle Ground
12 Battle Ground swimmers competed in the 4A/5A District championship at Kelso Friday and Saturday. Battle Ground was 5th in the 10 team meet.
The 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay team of Sam Anderson, Seth Colpitts, Alex Curran and Marcello Lombardi achieved state qualifying times and will be representing Battle Ground at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way Friday and Saturday, Feb 16 and 17. Three individuals including Sam Anderson and Marcello Lombardi swam state qualifying times in the 50 freestyle and Alex Curran swam a state qualifying time the 100 backstroke. Sam and Marcello were 4th and 5th in the championship 100 Freestyle. Seth Colpitts was 5th in the championship 50 freestyle. Alex Curran was 4th in the Championship 200 individual medley. Tyler Barnes was 5th in the consolation 50 freestyle. Marcus McCormic was 4th in the consolation 200 individual medley. Drew Forstrom was 6th in the consolation 500 freestyle. The 400 freestyle relay of Drew Forstrom, Marcus McCormic, Brennen Mitsch and Tyler Barnes were 6th in championships. Zach Walters, Alex Forstrom, Alex Mayer and Cameron Barnes also competed for Battle Ground. These 12 swimmers established new team records in every event this year.
